Kabba Banks Robbery: Police confirms death of Constable, 2 Robbers, Arrests 2 Suspects
Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the death a Police Constable,Mr Tanko Paul who was shot during the bank raids at Kabba in Kogi state.
The Police also confirmed the arrest of suspected members of armed robbery gang whose names were given as Rasaki Bello and Bayo Femi who is currently assisting the police in their investigation.
Addressing the newsmen at the Police Command Headquarters in Lokojka yesterday, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Saidu Madawaki who confirmed this,stated that the police put up a serious resistance against the robbers.
Madawaki explained that at about 13.30 hours unidentified gunmen in large numbers attacked First Bank and Mainstreet Bank at Kabba simultaneously with improvised Explosive Device and heavy gunfire, noting that the police on duty at Kabba Divisional Police Headquarters resisted the armed robbers from advancing toward the police station.
He pointed out that as a result of fierce encountered with robbers, they were unable to succeed at First Bank but managed to cart away unspecified amount of money from the Mainstreet Bank.
The Police Commissioner pointed out that during the fierce gun battle , two armed robbers were shot dead behind the Police divisional Headquarters,while one of them was taken away by the gang.
Madawaki noted that one civilian was killed,stressing that three police officers were shot,one confirmed dead while two others were seriously wounded.
He posited that the stiff resistance police men and manhunt,the police succeeded to arrest two suspected armed robbers and recovery of a Toyota Camry which the wind screen was riddled with bullets.
He stated that many of the suspected robbers escaped with bullet wounds, adding that he led the team of police to the scene of incident and visited the injured police at General Hospital in Kabba.
Items recovered from the scene of the robbery are a Toyota Camry with registration Number Lagos BS 612 AKD two motorcycles.
