Kenya Ejects Nigeria in Airtel Rising Stars U-17 Tourney

Hosts, Nigeria have been bundled out of the female category of the on-going second edition of the Airtel Rising Stars Africa U-17 soccer tournament holding in the country’s economic capital, Lagos.

The girls, against all expectations, lost 2-3 to their Kenyan counterparts in a tense semi-final just decided at the Agege Stadium. Both teams were stretched to the limit but refused to bow till the end of full time, which produced no goals.

Agbude Edore fluffed golden opportunities that could have fetched Nigeria victory while the Kenyans relied on their speed, height and long passes.

Nigeria finally surrendered in the ensuing penalty shootouts after managing to score only two as against three by the Kenyans.

Nigeria’s only hope now lies with the boys, who are presently slugging it out with defending champions Niger at the same venue.

The championship kicked off Monday at the Agege Township Stadium and ends at the same venue tomorrow.

The Airtel Rising Stars Africa U-17 soccer tournament is a unique pan-African initiative of Airtel Africa designed to create a pool of talents to feed the national football teams of African countries.
