Stephen Keshi Was Nigeria Greatest Football Legend, says John Mikel Obi

As reaction’s continue trailing the death of former Super Eagles captain and head coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, one of the key figures who steered Nigeria to glory at South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, John Mikel Obi has joined in raining eulogies on the late Nigeria legend.

Mikel, who currently captains the Super Eagles impressed under Keshi and went on to star during AFCON 2013 where he was named by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in the team of the tournament alongside teammates Vincent Enyeama, Efe Ambrose, Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike.

The 29-year-old, who now plays for Chelsea of England, who spoke through his aide Segun Olobatoke, extolled the legendary role and charisma of the late ‘Big Boss’ in the country’s success in South Africa 2013.

“I’m still in shock since receiving notice of the untimely passing of Stephen Keshi. He was the best coach I’ve ever worked with in the national team. He was a real champion, a great player, coach and cheering father,” the Chelsea star and Nigeria captain said.

“He was a coach we ever had. His ability and style led us to winning the 2013 Afcon after many years of struggle in just months he took over is a huge testament to his great asset to Africa. My deep condolence and heart-warming thoughts go out to his family and the football family in Nigeria.”
