Kogi Aims top 4 Best Sports States in Nigeria by 2020

Kogi state government has set target of breaking into the tkogi win president cup - captain present to Puke1op best four states in sports by the year 2020.

The long-term ambition to develop sports was made by the Commissioner of Sports, Honourable Puke Anthony while receiving the trophy on behalf of the state government from the victorious Kogi state football team that won the National President Unity Cup U-17 Boys Soccer Championship.

The Kogi State Ministry of Sports Boss, who emphasized the money-spinning career of sports, indicated that the targets of the state government are in developing sports talents; exposing them to become international stars and supporting them secure good career in their various sports.

While commended the team for the great display and victory recorded, Mr Puke who was presented with the trophy by the Kogi U-17, boasted that the state is endowed with football talents assessing the quality performance exhibited by the players.

The professional scrabble player, who previously represented the state at several national sports events for scrabble, singled out the Kogi captain and midfielder Abass Ibrahim for his fine display in the finals, noted that his enormous potentials in the team made huge effect in its triumph.

The senior polytechnic lecturer and politician informed that the winning Kogi U-17 boys will be hosted after the Christmas alongside other athletes that won medals and trophies for the state in several national competitions in the year 2013.

He noted that the state government has achieved better than another administration with an all-time best in its history at national sports events in 2013 with its contingents winning significant number of trophies and medals.

Kogi U-17 boys’ Abbas Ibrahim’s long range efforts silenced their Jalingo-based counterparts, Taraba as they completed four matches unbeaten.

Presents at the trophy presentation was the Special Adviser on Sports Development, Honourable Paul Aiyenugba; Vice President of YSFON, Honourable Mustapha Allah-Dey; Kogi State Chairman of YSFON, Nnda Umar, the Commissioner of Sports, Honourable Puke Anthony and staffs of the Ministry of Sports among host of others.
