Kogi ASUSS Boss Advocates Investment in Secondary Education

Kogi State Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Comrade Ranti Ojo has urged government at all levels to give priority to the development of secondary education in the country.

Mr Ranti made the call in Lokoja on the occasion of this year’s World Teachers’ Day Celebration on Saturday.

Comrade Ojo who described secondary education as pivotal in the development of the Nigerian child said the call became necessary in view of the neglect being witnessed in the sector.

He reiterated the appeal for the implementation of the act establishing the National Secondary Education Commission as panacea in resolving the issues bedeviling secondary education in the country in the area of funding, recruitment and remuneration of teachers.

On the on-going University Lecturers strike, the state ASUSS Chairman called on the Union and the Federal Government to shit grounds in the interest of the students, parents and the future of the nation.

In a message to the ocassion, Kogi State Head of civil Service, Dortor Moses Atakpa enjoined all relevant stakeholders in the education sector to partner with the government in its quest to reposition the secondary school education in the state.

As part of the celebration in Kogi State, one hundred secondary school teachers who retired from active service in the last one year were each given a plague and a set of generator by the Union.

The Union as well presented three trophies to the Teaching services Commission for a football competition among secondary schools in the state.
