Kogi Chief Judge inaugurates impeachment panel against Dekina Council chairman

Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajanah on Thursday inaugurated a seven-man panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the chairman of Dekina Local Government Council, Comrade Mohammed Ali.

Ajanah while inaugurating the panel at the High Court complex in Lokoja said the panel was constituted in consonance with section 16(6) of the Kogi State Local Government Law 2008.

The Chief Judge said members of the panel were selected after due and dispassionate consideration of their pedigree as ”sober, forthright and incorruptible personalities.”

”I am certain that you will bring these qualities to bear in the discharge of this onerous responsibility.

He charged them to discharge their responsibilities without fear or favour but with realisation that they owed God and themselves a duty to be above board.

Ajanah urged them not to be distracted from the basic principles sacrosanct in the Rule of Law saying “All sides are to be given the opportunity of being heard before a decision is arrived at.”

Chiarman of the panel, Mr Ibrahim Omuya on behalf of the members thanked the Chief Judge for considering them worthy of the assignment and pledged to uphold the integrity of the judiciary.

Members of the panel which has three months to submit its report include Alhaji Jibrin Anaja, Mr Joseph Ajisola and Alhaji Zubayr Saliu.

Others are Alhaji Mohammed Bello, Rev. Friday Oloku and Mallam Idris Jibril while Alhaji Ali Okeme who is to serve as secretary.

Ali was suspended from office on July 10 by the Local Government Legislative Council on a seven-point allegations bordering on misappropriation of public funds among others.
