Kogi Deputy Hails Governor on Bill Empowering KSSWMB

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi has commended Capt. Idris Wada the State Governor for signing into law the bill for the establishment, functions and powers of the Kogi State Sanitation and Waste Management Board.

The bill to establish the Kogi State Sanitation and Waste Management Board which was earlier passed by the State House of Assembly, Awoniyi explained was occasioned by the indiscriminate dumping of waste and haphazard physical development witnessed in the State on assumption of office, by the present administration.

The Deputy Governor who presides over the affairs of the Board as its Chairman made the remarks at the meeting of the board held in his office.

The Governor’s assent, Awoniyi disclosed now empowers the Board to achieve a sustainable and orderly development of the environment.

The Board he added has also been given the right to prosecute sanitation offenders.

The Deputy Governor further said By the State Governor’s assent the Board’s objectives would amongst others include; to secure the quality of the environment and work towards minimizing the impact of physical development on the ecosystems of the State amongst others.

The board’s other function Awoniyi pointed out would also include; removing, destroying or demolishing all illegal houses, buildings or structures within the State.

In her remarks,Mrs Florence Joseph,Acting General Manager of the State Sanitation Board noted that the signing into law of the Board now ensures that owners or occupiers of premises clean and keep their premises and surroundings free from all undergrowth, weeds, filth, rubbish, litter, waste, refuse, obstruction of any description or any other nuisance.

The board Mrs Florence maintained would now ensure that all owners of residential buildings and regulated premises provide sanitary toilet facilities in their premises, lauded the positive disposition of the Governor to beautification and sanitation,urged the people of the state to key into the governor’s new vision towards having a healthy environment.
