Kogi Gov, Idris Wada blames Nigeria’s security problems on Poor Record Keeping
Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada has been described the Non-availability of a comprehensive data bank to suggestions to solving security and National problem as a major challenge to solving security problems in Nigeria.
Kogi State Governor,Capt Idris Wada made the disclosure at the opening ceremony of a one week Executive Intelligence Management Course 7 of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), Buwari, Abuja holding in Lokoja.
Capt Idris Wada who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, described the theme of the conference; Democratic governance and National Security; Prospects and challenges, as coming at a time when the country is bedeviled with security challenges.
The Governor said in view of the present security realities, conferences that will proffer solutions to the nations security and other challenges should be encouraged, and advised that outcome of such conferences should be contained and kept in a central data bank for references and for easy access.
The governor maintained that the study tour would enable the state government have knowledge of the problems posed by democratic governance as it affects National security.
While noting that the outcome of the group’s tour and discussion will help promote good governance,he added that it will enable democracy to also flourish in the country when applied.
The governor who noted that the relationship between good governance and national security cannot be over emphasized,commended the institute in its efforts geared towards peace building and in nurturing democracy.
In his address, Prof. Aminu Dawari, Head of the delegation of ISS to the state,described the rising cases of insecurity as a global phenomenon,said their visit will give them an insight into how democratic governance affects National security.
The institute, Prof Aminu maintained runs a 9 months course,drawing participants from security and strategic agencies and other interest groups, commended the peaceful environment the present administration has created, attributing it to good policies and provision of democratic dividends by the administration in the state.
Also speaking,Bettina Ogoro,Director of Staff of the institute,said the institute is concerned with finding solutions to contemporary challenges posed by insecurity.
She assured that with the solutions the institute will proffer, when put into practiced, has the capacity to sustain and create a peaceful environment.
In his welcome remarks, Air Commodore Mathis Abdullahi,Rtd, Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Security matters, said the nation is currently bedeviled by insecurity challenges caused by bad governance and inability to resolve other interest that are at conflict with democratic governance.
He said the conference and the visit will offer solutions that will enhance national security, which he stated, could lead to self destruction and derail the nation’s hard earned democracy.
