Kogi NUJ 2014:Council Members Fault Electoral Committee Set-Up

nuj-300x225An unprecedented crisis seems to be looming in Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, following the controversial appointment and inauguration of the three man Credentials Committee to conduct the council election by the incumbent Chairman of the union, Mr. Ali Atabor.

It would be recalled that the council has be facing internal crisis following the alleged refusal by the incumbent Chairman, Ali Atabor and Secretary of the council, Mr. Adaiza Momoh as well as Abubakar Hussein, the treasurer of the union to honour the rotational arrangement that brought them into office.

According to the statement issued by Kola Campaign Organisation which faulted the appointment and the subsequent inauguration of the credentials committee, its said due process was not followed in the whole issue as the State Working Committee were not involved in the appointment of the Tims Ejiga led credentials committee.

The statement which was signed by Comrade Sam Egwu, Chairman of the Campaign Organisation, Secretary, Mr. Stephen Orugun and I. Sadig. I said the decision was against the letter and spirit of democracy.

The group which also passed a vote of no confidence on the Zone D Vice President, Mr. Mathias Omale added that the committee can not conduct a free, fair and credible election going by the body languages, utterances and actions in support of the present executive that are hell- bent in remain in office despite their unpopularity among the members of the union.

” We are constraint to cry out following the un-constitutional acts by the present executive in the state, which have decided to appoint credentials committee without the knowledge of the members of the SEC as the case may be”. The statement read.

The statement therefore appealed to the National President, Comrade Garba Muhammed and Secretary, Mr.Shaibu Liman to urgently intervene in the issue to save the chapter from imminent crisis.
