The Chairman of Kogi State Golfers Association, Emmanuel Adejoh Bako, has stated that the state is set for the establishment of its first golf course in the university town of Anyigba, in Dekina LGA.

He added that the proposed project will create employment opportunities and enhance socio- economic activities in the state and the host communities.

The chairman gave this hint last weekend in Lokoja while addressing reporters on the N200 million fund raising project.

Bako noted that the golf course will generate employment for some its citizens in addition to other benefits which comes with it.

According to him “A training range has already been constructed at the university for the training of would-be golfers. I call on all on our people to disregard the erroneous belief that the game of golf is for the rich and the elites.

“I am from a humble background and I play golf. It is only a misinformation that the game is for the rich or the elites, that is totally wrong. Anyone can play it as long as you have the interest

” I do not think that the game would have been included in the Olympic Games if they feel that it is for only the rich. That is why I am calling on all Kogi people to show interest in the game of golf,” he stressed.

He said being the first golf course to be constructed in the state, the hospitality industry has a lot to benefit from it, even as he said no fewer than five persons have already been engaged in the ongoing construction of the golf course.

He added that there will also be a transfer of technology as the host communities would be directly involved in the project, saying that the golf course like any other ones across the world would be self financing through fees and members registration.

Bako stressed that the estimated cost of N200 million will be deployed for clearing and site preparation of the 350 square meters of land, construction of tee boxes, fairways and surroundings, construction of greens, construction and installations of fittings for the club house and a dedicated borehole and a water treatment plant among others.
