Kogi Workers Suspend 6 Weeks Old Industrial Action After Govt’s Intervention

Organised Labour in kogi state under the aegis of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress has suspended its six weeks strike and has called on workers to resume work.
This followed an agreement signed by Labour leadership and the State government to move the state forward after a protracted strike action by the public servants.
The agreement which was jointly signed the Deputy Governor, Elder Simon Achuba (Secretary to the State Government) Dr. Mrs. Ayoade Folashade Arike (Deputy Chief of Staff), Hon. Alhaji Isa Omade (Special Adviser on Labour and Pension Matters), Halimotu Amodu and Mrs Lawal H.O Kehinde on the behalf of government.
On the part of Labour, the state Chairman of NLC, Comrade Onuh. Edoka, TUC chairman, Comrade Ojo Ranti Mathew, JPSNC State Chairman, Comrade Akeji Y. Aaron, State President NUGLE Tade Adeyemi, NUP-Comrade Ipemida Joseph, SSANU-Comrade M.S. Balogun, COEASU-Comrade linus Akphihi, ASUP-Comrade John F Otaru and State Controller of Labour-Comrade Olugbemi O., signed on behalf of organised labour.
In the fourteen paragraph agreement, Labour urged the state government to make the report of the screening exercise available to all MDAs, LGAs, LGEAs and Higher Institutions in the state.
Labour noted that the decision of government to use two banks for payment of salaries from the bail-out funds constitute a great inconvenience for workers, urging that subsequent payment relating to bail-out or other monies should not be vested in two banks only. They resolved that salaries should be paid to individual account of the choice directly.
It was also agreed that there should be a review by the state government on the recent appointment made by local government areas to reflect the principle of seniority as contained in all relevant extant civil service rule.
Labour demanded that payment of PAYE be returned to status quo ante and agreed that tax refunds or tax holidays be implemented by Kogi. State University, College of Education Ankpa in respect of all cases over taxation as approved in 2015 for Kogi State government among others.
