Mrs Eunice Agbogun, Acting chairman of KONGONET disclosed this at the inauguration of the network’s newly acquired secretariat and Monthly General Meeting of the body in Lokoja on Saturday.

Agbogun said the training would enable them to fit into programmes of various international development agencies saying: “we have lost a lot of opportunities in the past because of limited capacity of our member organisations.

“Part of the way forward for us in KONGONET is to organize the training so that our members can improve their capacities and be well-positioned to meet challenges and not to miss opportunities again and again.”

According to her, the network which was inaugurated in September, 2014, is an umbrella body of all NGOs, CSOs, Faith Based Organisations (FBOs) and other non-profit humanitarian organisations in the state.

She said that the organizations came together to form a formidable alliance for better organization, efficiency and to be able to speak with one voice, access funds and capacity building among others for better service to humanity.

Agbogun revealed that the Network in the last one year had been able to complement government development efforts and also involved with sensitization on electoral and budgetary matters, advocacy and filled the gaps in service delivery.

“KONGONET member organizations have been implementing programmes on a wide variety of themes including education, health, agriculture, women’s rights, child’s rights, conflict and disaster management, care for the elderly and skills development among others.

“The Network fosters solidarity, coherence, best practices, information and experience sharing and linkages among members of the organization with the aim of catalyzing sustainable development and poverty alleviation”, she said.
