Kwankwaso Builds Multi-Storey Park in Kano, Bags NSD Award
Kano state government will construct the first Multi-Storey car park in the state capital at Shahuci area, in addition to two under pass roads at Gadon Kaya and Kabuga junctions in Kano metropolis, at the cost of billions of Naira.
The state governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso disclosed this in an address at the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, at the National Conference Center, Abuja.
The governor, who received the society’s Presidential Merit Award during the ceremony, announced that his administration has also awarded contract for a 1.76 km flyover around Abubakar Rimi Market area aimed at easing congestion. This, he noted, is one of the longest flyover bridges in the West African sub-regions.
“Another historic project is the Jakara river project. This is a 6.67km dual carriageway being constructed on top of the river using buried circular conduits and an Asphaltic concrete on top with streetlights and traffic lights’’, Governor Kwankwaso revealed.
These, he pointed out, are some of the several life-changing projects being executed by his administration in the last two and half years, which should be of great interest to Nigerian engineers.
On the honour bestowed on him by the NSE, the governor said it is gratifying and a testimony that his professional colleagues recognize his modest contribution to the development of the engineering profession.
Governor Kwankwaso said the challenges he faced as an engineer have strengthen him in coping with many obstacles he faced in the last 20 years as a politician and have helped him in initiating many developmental policies and projects in Kano.
