Kwara SWAN, Police collaborate against soccer violence

The Kwara state Police Command has pledged its readiness to partner the Kwara state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in managing crowd effectively, and curbing violence during league matches at the Kwara state stadium.

The number one Police Officer in the state, CP Agboola Oshodi-Golver made the pledge in his office on Monday while receiving members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Kwara chapter who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

According to him, media is part of police, adding that the Command was ready to give adequate support to curb the occasional ugly incidence during league matched at the stadium.

He commended Kwara SWAN for the initiative, while also thanking the journalists in the state for assisting the police to perform their duties, and also giving adequate publicity.

As part of the collaborative effort, he made available to Kwara SWAN a Security Information Network, charging them to make good use of the Directory in making information available to the police when necessary.

Earlier in his address, Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Bunmi Adedoyin called for collaboration between police and SWAN in identifying and arresting trouble makers at the stadium before, during and after league matches and other sports meets.

He noted that Kwara United had gone on relegation on three separate times as a result of violence during their matches, and that the last one also affected ABS FC, as they have to play under closed doors when the stadium was banned.

Adedoyin commended Oshodi-Glover for supporting YSFON in the organization of the on-going U-13 tournament in the state, and for encouraging sports participation in the Command.

He also commended the Command for ensuring that relative peace is being enjoyed in the state, as the state recorded the lowest crime rate in the country.

He sought for the support of the Commissioner of Police and his Command, for the forth-coming SWAN Media Games.
