Lagos International Table Tennis Classics – Nigeria will shine, says Toriola

Six times Olympian, Segun Toriola has assured that the Nigerian team for the Lagos International Table Tennis Classics will be good enough to win honours for the country at the end of the championship.

Speaking in Lagos Tuesday, the France based Nigerian international told Sports Vanguard that ‘Nigeria is a great table tennis playing nation that is respected all over the world.

We have a great reputation among table tennis playing countries. We are good and I can assure you, we won’t disappoint.’

He said he was aware of players coming from countries like Chinese Taipei. Egypt, Italy, Congo DR, among others but remained certain of a good outing for Team Nigeria.

He was particularly happy over the positive effect the tournament will bring to bear on local players.

‘The tournament will expose our players and the experience they stand to gain from the event will go a long way their careers,’ Toriola said.

On her part, former African champion, Funke Oshonaike, the event couldn’t have come at a better time than now. ‘I feel so wonderful and overjoyed.

I will just enjoy myself and have a good time while it lasts,’ she said. A former national champion, Offiong Edem also spoke on the coming championships.

‘It is one of the best things to happen to our game locally. It is not going to be easy but we will give it our best shot,’ she said.
