Lagos stage 2013 Seafood Festival

Addressing the Press at a briefing on the preparation and activities set aside for the festival at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Secretariat, Alausa, Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, said the maiden edition of the festival which took place last year November witnessed over 3000 participants drawn from stakeholders in the Aquaculture Value Chain.

Lawal revealed that this year’s festival is scheduled for Saturday 7th December, 2013 at the Bar Beach Stretch, Victoria Island and has been designed to further celebrate Lagos State’s traditional delicacies and maritime heritage, develop networking/linkages among stakeholders, share knowledge and technology used in the industry and exchange information on products and services available in the global market.

The Commissioner said that some of the objectives of the festival include the desire to stimulate investment potential of Lagos State in relation to aquaculture and artisanal fisheries; to positively impact the economy of the State in the long term and ultimately feature as a major tourist attraction and destination of choice for local and international tourists.

Disclosing that the Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola will be the Special Guest of Honour, Lawal said all hands are on deck to make the festival a more successful one, as local and international communities have indicated interest to participate in the festival.

According to him, “It is going to be a full day event which will offer Lagos Fisherfolks the opportunities to interact with both local and international tourists, while guests, participants and fun seekers will enjoy and savour the fresh seafood available in Lagos waters”.
