Lagos win maiden edition of DAWN Games
Lagos State last has emerged the overall winner of the maiden edition of Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Games tagged ‘DAWN Games’ and hosted by Lagos State, inside the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
The games, which was organised for the six south-west geo-political zone of the country was aimed at creating an enabling environment for the youth to interact as future leaders.
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this while drawing curtains on the games last Friday.
Meanwhile, Ondo State was the only state that did not participate in the games but the remaining five states of the zone participated actively.
Speaking after the Games, the chairman of the technical committee and the President of Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAF),
Babatunde Williams described DAWN as a huge success despite the absence of Ondo State.
He explained that the games achieved its target as many talents were discovered. Williams expressed happiness with the discovery of a 12-year-old Junior Secondary School swimmer, Miss Morayo Okungbawo of Meadow Hall School, Lekki, who stunned spectators during the games as she won a total of 13 medals made up of 11 gold, asilver and a bronze.
Still in swimming, a 15 year- old JSS2 student of Herois Faith College, Mile 12, Kosofe, Master Daniel Ibikunle, emerged as the most outstanding athlete as he garnered a total of eight medals, seven gold and a silver in the male category.
