LASG, FAAN Collaborate To Ease Traffic At Airport
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said that it would collaborate with the Lagos State Government to ease traffic on the axis in its effort to ease traffic congestion at the Muritala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja.
FAAN Managing Director, Mr George Uriesi, who made disclosed this when he paid while a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Transportation at Alausa, Ikeja, said that it was imperative for the Authority to team up with the Ministry, in order to ensure free flow of traffic ‘to and fro’ the Airport.
“There are reasons why FAAN would collaborate with the Ministry of Transportation and one of them is to ease the traffic congestion on the roads linking the Airport”, he said.
He further stated that the collaborative effort would regulate public transportation – taxi system and Airport car hire services, with a view to ensuring that public transportation is carefully planned for in order to work effectively.
Uresi, added that the collaboration would also allow the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), to assist FAAN in controlling traffic on Ikeja – Oshodi axis of the Airport, reduce traffic gridlock in the area and ultimately guarantee users of the airport a more friendly experience.
Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, in his response promised that the Ministry would focus on transportation and traffic management around the airport.
Opeifa said, having discussed the issue of putting up a better public transportation for the airport corridor, the joint effort will help to reduce the number of unregistered means of public transportation and ease movement in and out of the airport.
The Commissioner gave assurance that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will also assist in managing traffic during road construction at the Airport in order to avoid its spread to other parts of the State.
