Lions DG U-13 Football Tourney kicks off in Lagos

The maiden edition of Lions Club District Governor U-13 Football Championship has kicked off, at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The District Governor, Lion Yinka Bolarinwa, MJF, LNCF flag off the auspices of the football event when he unveiled the championship and performed the traditional kick off.

While speaking with journalists at the weekend former Nigeria Football Federation Executive Board Member, Taiwo Odebunmi, said the motive behind the championship is to help the NFF to discover raw talents from the grassroots.

“Lions Club stands for service and that is why we want to bring joy to the faces of the poor. We want to support the Nigeria Football Federation, to assist them discover raw talents that will be integral member of our age group National teams and the Super Eagles,” said Odebunmi, who is the Chairman DG Under 13 Cup Committee.

The former chairman of Ekiti State Football Association, further stated that exceptional players discovered will form the neucleus of the proposed Lions Club Football Academy and noted that the tournament would be a yearly championship.

Four centers will play host to the competitioon, Surulere; National Stadium (Legacy pitch), Agege; Agege Stadium, Abeokuta; MKO Abiola Stadium and in Ado Ekiti; Oluyemi Kayode Stadium.

Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan, will host all the Quarter final matches, while the semi-final and final matches will be decided at Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin.

The organizers has placed a price-tag of #200, 000 for winner, #150, 000 for the second place team, #100, 000 for third place team and the fourth place team will go home with #50, 000.

The competition will be competed for among states under District 404B which comprises Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Kwara and Ekiti.
