llegal refinery: NSCDC arrests 16-year-old, 3 others in Kogi

The National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi on Monday paraded a 16-year-old Boy, Simon Chokodi and three others arrested in collection with alleged operation of an illegal refinery.
Mr Tijani Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of the corps in the state while briefing newsmen in Lokoja said the illegal refinery was located in Ebiya, Ajaokuta Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the command had been on the trail of the suspects in the past three months before they were eventually arrested last week.

Ibrahim explained that the refinery was initially burnt down upon discovery by the corps but the gang re-built it and started refining crude oil which they shipped to Nagazi in Adavi Local Government area for sale.

Aside the minor Chokodi, the command’s spokesman paraded the other three, Sumaila Sadu, 23; Yusufu Braimoh, 21 and Raji Jamiu, 24 adding that their marketer and buyer were presently at large.

The 16-yeqar-old Chokodi, fielding questions from newsmen had said that he was a bus conductor adding that his master was hired by the bunkerers to transport the refined crude oil products saying that he did not know it was an offence.

Ibrahim said some drums of crude oil and a Van were recovered from the scene.
