LMCNPFL suspends Nigeria League games till April 19 for Elections, FA Cup

Actions will resume in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on April 19 barely a week after the conclusion of the 2015 general elections a top official of the League Management Company (LMC) has revealed.

The top flight league went on recess two weeks ago after the first three match days but the initial plan to have the match day four games played on the weekend of April 4 and 5 has been truncated by the directives from the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) that all final of the States FA Cup be played this weekend across the country.

A statement from the office of the LMC’s Chief Operating Officer , Salihu Abubakar disclosed that Week 4 games have been rescheduled sequel to the directives from the NFF which fixes all States’ FA Cup finals for the weekend of April 4 and 5.

Abubakar also hinted that the new date for the reopening of the league would allow the players and club officials participate fully in the ongoing national elections and also allows clubs on the on continental engagements focus on reaching the next stage of their various competitions.

“All Match Day 4 fixtures will now hold on Sunday, April 19 and we will release the date for Match day 5 ties in due time,” Abubakar said.

FC Taraba are still on top of the league after three games. They have seven points and are a point clear at the top. They are followed by Heartland FC, El Kanemi Warriors, Gabros FC and Kwara United.

Abia Warriors, Akwa United Bayelsa United and 3SC are in the relegation zone and are in need of turnaround if they do not want to kiss the top flight bye at the end of the season.
