LP Aspirant, Akpata Denies Obaseki Sponsorship Claims
A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party, Olumide Akpata, has dismissed reports linking him to incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki’s sponsorship.
In an interview with journalists in Benin, the former Nigerian Bar Association President described the allegations as “unfounded and baseless.”
Quoted in reports, Akpata stated “That I am sponsored by Godwin Obaseki is an unfounded and baseless rumour.”
He decried the “irresponsible” spread of the rumors by two blogs, vowing legal action to curb misinformation.
Akpata also blamed “disgruntled politicians” including in his party for peddling the claims and noted his relationship with the governor had been open.
The aspirant argued only those unable to agree on disagreements would assume cooperation meant belonging to the same camp.
As he continues campaigning for the LP ticket, Akpata’s denial aims to debunk speculated politicking behind his gubernatorial ambition in Edo State.
