The Bauchi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday appealed to the incoming administration of President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to tackle issues of insecurity, unemployment, poverty and corruption, saying that there are high expectations from the populace.

The state’s labour chairman, Comrbuhari muhammadade Hashim Gital , made the appeal yesterday on the occasion of the commemoration of the 2015 Workers May Day celebration at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

He noted that the task before the incoming administration was a herculean one, hence it must brace up to the challenges before it. Gital noted that the problem of corruption has eaten deep into the economy of the nation and urged the incoming administration to probe corrupt government officials that misappropriated public funds.

He said: “We are living in times of high distress in the nation. Citizens are not only poor but helpless and our government at all levels have ceased to be service providers. Our leaders are not only extortionist, but have become a source of anguish and reduced our children to orphans in our lifetime.”

According to him, ‘the incoming administration of Muhamadu Buhari must do something capable of unlocking the entrepreneurial potentials and ignite the productive capacities of our citizens in order to become employers of labour and produce wealth. This will go a long way to rekindle the hopes of Nigerians.’

The state’s governor, Isa Yuguda, said that his administration has made giant strides in the state civil service that has improved the welfare of workers since its inception in 2007, adding that the government employed the use of dialogue to resolve the challenges of workers.

Yuguda who was represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Mr Abdon Dalla Gin, said that the outgoing administration has recorded 118 interventions in the civil service to propel greater performance towards effective implementation of government programmes and policies. He said that his government has fulfilled all the promises it made to civil servants and commended them for the cooperation they gave him during his eight years administration.
