ItT was an atmosphere of cultural glitz and glamour as the women wing of the Magongo Development Association (MDA), conferred awards on deserving individuals from the community at the weekend.

The women, gayly bedight in their Magongo refinement accentuated the scene of the occasion at the Kogi State Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Lokoja.

In her welcome address, the President of Magongo Development Association, Mrs Comfort Agbadi, who thanked members for their steadfastness, gave a special appreciation to Hon Gabriel Daudu, member of Kogi state House of Assembly and Mrs Catherine Orifunmishe, describing them as “the unseen hands behind the successes of their programmes”.

She also left a special word of appreciation to the Corporation Secretary to the Kogi State publishing and printing company, publishers of The Graphic Newspaper, for his immeasurable contribution to the activities of MDA.

Mrs. Agbadi recalled that the women wing was carved out of the main body so that peculiar interests to the development of Magongo women are taken care of, adding that though financial constraints have been impeding on their planned programmes, hoped that they would resume them “as soon as their “financial fibres become elastic enough”.

Speaking in an interview with Savidnews.com, one of the awardees, Oseborega Oluwaremilekun Austin, expressed happiness about the award bestowed on him by cognates and praised them for their antecedents since they came into existence.

He said the award serves as an elixir to galvanise him into doing more than he has been doing to assist the youths of both Magongo and Ebira origins as he has been doing since he joined the civil service. He said as the future leaders, the youths need to be assisted in order to pave the way for a brighter future for them.
