Nigeria international, Michelle Alozie was shown a straight red card in Houston Dash’s 1-0 away defeat to San Diego Wave in a National Women’s Soccer League fixture (NWSL) played on Sunday.

The 26-year-old was unable to control the ball from a throw-in and brought down her opponent, who was through on goal.

The defender was shown a straight red card just after the half-hour mark following a review of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The Super Falcons star was the last defender as center referee Ekaterina Koroleva decided to send her off.

Houston was under heavy pressure thereafter with San Diego seizing advantage of their opponent one player down to bombard the away team’s box.

However, the breakthrough would come for the San Diego Wave when 18-year-old Jaedyn Shaw converted a ball through to her by Christen Westphal in the 57th minute.

The defeat leaves Houston Dash in 10th position with 20 points in the 12-team league table after 18 games. They will face Uchenna Kanu’s Racing Louisville in their next fixture on September 16.
