Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi Flags-off Sports Initiative in Nasarawa State
Minister of Sports and Chairman National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has flagged-off the “Rhythm N’ Play” sports initiative aimed at getting children participate in sports activities in Nasarawa State.
The minister kicked off the programme at the Government Science Secondary School, Nasarawa Eggon yesterday, saying the school will serve as a pilot school to use as cluster centre for sporting activities in the state.
He said the programme which is targeted at enhancing mass youth participation in sporting activities and empowerment of youths through sports and play was launched by President Goodluck Jonathan on June 6, 2013 in Abuja.
While flagging off the campaign, the minister expressed optimism that the programme will go a long way to help groom kids into future champions. “I have no doubt in my mind that amongst these children here today are future champions.”
He assured that: “We will continue to support them (the kids) and with the commitment of Nasarawa State government, we will build these children up.”
The minister presented sporting equipment to the nine secondary schools from the state that took part in the flag-off ceremony and promised that the NSC would soon provide more equipment for onward distribution to more schools to enable them participate in inter-school competitions.
