Morocco 2022: Gift Monday remains hungry for trophies despite exclusion from Nigeria’s squad

Bayelsa Queens striker Gift Monday insists she will keep working hard to improve her performances despite being left out of Nigeria’s provisional squad for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The FC Robo Queens loanee was one of the in-form players dropped from the provisional squad by coach Randy Waldrum, as the West Africans confirmed the 32-woman squad, with her exclusion generating huge criticisms from the media and fans following her expliots at the NWFL Premiership Super Six.

The 20-year-old netted a brace in Bayelsa 2-1 title winning match over Nasarawa Amazons on Sunday to claim the Woman of the Match award as well as finished the Super Six tourney as the Most Valuable Player and topscorer with nine goals in five games and swelled her season’s tally to 12 goals in 10 games.

Following her phenomenon campaign in Benin City, the wantaway striker was left dumbstruck over her incredible goalscoring form and maiden league title success with Bayelsa Queens.

“I feel really happy and grateful. What was in my mind was to help the team win Super 6 and I was glad to be able to achieve that,” Monday, told CAFOnline.com.

“I didn’t anticipate scoring these numbers of goals, but I am grateful. It means the future is bright for Gift Monday and I’ll keep working towards it. I want to show good performances every day.
