Moscow 2013: Team Nigeria makes 4x400m Women final
Team Nigeria’s quest for more medals at the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Russia, got a boost and was also dealt a blow during Friday’s morning session.
The good news for Nigeria was the qualification of the country’s 4x400m women’s team for Saturday’s final; while sadly the country’s medal hopeful in the men’s Triple Jump event, Tosin Oke, pulled out owing to an injury.
The U.K. based jumper voiced his frustration on social media network twitter adding that he just had to follow the advice from medics.
“After much treatment, medical advice & consideration, I have decided to pull out of the World Champs in Moscow. It’s been a frustrating…” Oke who is the reigning African and Commonwealth champion wrote on his twitter handle @Tosin_Oke
For the 4x400m women quartet anchored by U.S. based Regina George, the task of getting at least a medal after recording a season best time of 3:27.39 in the qualifiers will now be the target.
Joining Nigeria in Saturday’s final of the 4x400m women’s event are Russia, United States, Britain, France Italy, Romania and Ukraine.
Meanwhile Nigeria’s track sensation, Blessing Okagbare, will compete in the 200m women’s final this evening.
