Nasir Gawuna Seeks Private Sponsors for YSFON as Chief of Naval Staff Cup Hold in Abuja

President Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Alhaji Nasir Yusuf Gawuna has urged corporate organisations in Nigeria and beyond to partner YSFON in it drive to unearth talents for the development sports in the country.

Gawuna made the call while briefing newsmen of programmes of the 15th edition of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) U-14 boys and Naval Officers Wives Association (NOWA) U-17 girls competitions which kick-off yesterday at the Old Parade in Area 10, Abuja.

He said in the face of dwindling economics and continuous roaming of streets by Nigerian youths in searching of non-existing job, investing in grassroots sports development is the only way to alleviate the suffering of Nigerian youths and reposition the country for utmost performance.

He commended the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas in help re-activating Chief of Naval Staff Cup competition, saying the event would avail youths in the nation opportunities to develop their talents and contribute their quota to the development of the society.

He urged all hands to be on deck in order to engender youth development through sports. He specifically government at levels, corporate bodies and individuals to support YSFON in bring back Nigeria’s glorious moment in sports.

He said outstanding talents that will be discover during the one week long event will be groomed and exposed, adding that the players will form the crux of the new YSFON Stars that will feature at the Dallas Cup in the USA and Norway invitational tournament.

While speaking further, he noted that gains in engaging youths in sporting activities cannot be over emphasized. He said sports will be ultimately become a career path for the gifted ones like former Super Eagles, Kanu Nwankwo, Tijani Babangida, Emmanuel Amunike, Austin Eguavoen, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and many other international stars who were products of YSFON’s competition.

He said YSFON is determining and has structures on ground to unearth talents for the country.

“What we need is little support because we have the structures on ground in the local governments up to federal level, and we have people has love and passion for sports from the ward to the national level. The talents are there waiting to be explored. So, we call on corporate bodies and Nigerians to supports us to unearth the talents are bound in all nook and crannies of the country in develop our sports.
