Senator Smart Adeyemi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District at the National Assembly has pledged the sum of N10 million as annual bursary for 200 students from the senatorial district Chief Fehinti Dada disclosed this yesterday while inaugurating Committee on Senator Smart Adeyemi Scholarship board on behalf of the legislator at the Amusement park in Lokoja.
Dada said Senator Smart Adeyemi who has been given bursary to students of the district discovered that more students are still coming for help, hence he decided to set up a scholarship board for more student to benefit, saying that 200 students across the wards from the seven local governments in the district would benefit the N10 fund.
According to him, the first N10 million bursary would be distributed in mid October this year to the 200 students from the district in colleges of Education, polytechnics as well as Universities across the country.
He said there are over 5000 tertiary students in the district, saying that the committee would work out the modalities to select beneficiaries and that those who benefit from the October exercise would not take part in subsequent one so that it can go round.
Dada however charged the committee to ensure that the criteria use for the beneficiary students is devoid of political manipulation and reached those intended for it.
Responding, he President of National Association of Okun Student union, (NAOSS), David Oni and representatives of the National Association of Lokoja Student Union and Association of Koto Student union all described Senator Adeyemi as student friendly, saying that it is first in the history of the district.
