National Grammar School, Enugu win in CAF African Schools Football Championship opener against Togo
In a sensational kickoff to the CAF African Schools Football Championship, Nigeria’s flag bearer, National Grammar School, Nike, Enugu State, secures an impressive 4-0 win over Togo during the WAFU B Zonal Finals in Lome.
The team’s journey started with their triumph in the national championship held in Abuja from November 2nd to 9th, 2023, where they emerged as champions among 11 teams from nine states. FOSLA Academy, led by former NFF President Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi, dominates the female category and proudly represents Nigeria.
As representatives from Nigeria, Benin Republic, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and host Togo gather in Lome for the WAFU B zonal finals, the competition unfolds in a round-robin format at the Stade Municipal de Kegue. The ultimate winner in Lome will go on to carry WAFU B’s flag at the continental finals scheduled for April 2024.
This exciting phase coincides with the WAFU B Congress, attended by prominent figures such as President of Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.
A testament to the championship’s global impact, over 800,000 boys and girls from 28,000 schools across 44 countries participate in this season’s CAF African Schools Football Championship. This initiative, spearheaded by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, reflects a commitment to nurturing Africa’s football talent and future leaders through impactful developmental programs.
