The Head of Operational of the agency in the state, Mr Jediel Appolos, gave the warning in Gombe on Tuesday while launching an operation code-named, ”Operation Eagle Eye”.

Appolos said that the operation was aimed at sensitising road users to the need to observe traffic rules and regulations.

He said the festive period was characterised by heavy vehicular movement, hence the need to sensitise the road users to the need to ensure careful driving during and even after the festivities.

Appolos observed that commercial drivers capitalised on the mass movement of people and goods during the season to engage in reckless driving with the aim of earning more money.

According to him, such attitude always results in accidents, with the attendant loss of lives and property.

He also advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles were road worthy to prevent accidents.

He said NEMA was collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure the success of the operation.

”During the Ember months, there is increased movement of vehicles and people don’t mind the consequences.

”We want to enlighten the public to allow free movement of vehicles and reduce road crashes.

”NEMA, FRSC and NSCDC personnel should lead and guide drivers on how to control effective movement of vehicles.”

Appolos said the campaign would last till Jan. 2, 2014 and would be carried out across the state.
