New Army division to get fire power and Logistics – COAS assures

The army authorities has assured the newly formed 7 Division that no efforts will be spared in ensuring that the formation has enhanced fire power backed by adequate logistics to facilitate its accomplishment of the task of dealing with terrorism in the North East and establishing an enduring security in its entire area of responsibility.

Making the declaration while addressing officers of the Division in Maiduguri on Friday, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Azubuike Ihejirika said he would also ensure that ” all the units of the Division will possess necessary integrity and cohesion from the onset”.

The Army Chief commended the General Officer Commanding and all the officers and men for the professional way they have managed the transition in the operation from the Joint Task Force by maintaining the required tempo. He urged the formation to maintain its aggressive patrols in order to deny the remaining insurgents any respite or opportunity to regroup or operate.

Continuing, General Ihejirika said their commitment to the country’s security was commendable and appreciated and that the Commander in Chief, President Goodluck Jonathan was highly interested in the welfare of the troops and the success of the operations. He said the entire leadership of the armed forces was equally very keen to render the formation all the necessary support.

The COAS also had an audience with all the Air Force pilots involved in the operations. He commended them for their outstanding input in making the operation to achieve its objectives. He said the ideal spirit of jointness has been adequately demonstrated with their remarkable efforts in the operations so far.

Earlier in an interactive session with troops the army chief assured them that all the request they made towards enhancing the mission would be handled with dispatch.
