“New PDP” are ordinary protesters – Gov Dickson Aide

As the activities of the Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led New PDP continue to generate controversy, Governor Seriake Dickson’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Fred Agbedi, has lambasted members of the faction describing them as “mere protesters.”

Agbedi, who spoke on Friday in an interview programme on Radio Bayelsa, 97.1 Glory FM, monitored by Sunday Independent in Yenagoa, insisted that what Baraje and his followers are doing is not known to law and would not stand.

He said the quest by the New PDP leadership and the aggrieved governors, including Aliyu Babangida (Niger), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to destabilise the PDP “is an exercise in futility and it will lead to no where.”

Agbedi said there are no New PDP and old PDP, stressing that the Baraje faction has only created a platform to vent their anger and that they will return to the PDP sooner or later.

Dickson’s aide said Bamanga Tukur remains the only recognised National Chairman of the PDP, noting that his leadership emerged through a legitimate convention of the party where the protesters also participated and voted.

He stated: “There is nothing like New PDP and old PDP. People are doing what is not known to law. They are doing something that would not stand. It’s only an avenue to vent their anger. When they finish venting their anger, they would come back.

“PDP is one certificate and the leadership emerged through a legitimate convention in which all these people participated and voted to elect Bamanga Tukur into office.

“They cannot just wake up and want the party to rescind the convention. They have the right to protest but it does not validate their action because there is no new PDP and old PDP. All that is an exercise in futility. It would lead to nothing. It would lead to nowhere.”

Agbedi advised members of the party and the people of the state to disregard the announcement by a group of persons claiming to be New PDP members.
