Aminu Maigari, the beneficiary of an alleged letter from FIFA to oversee the elections of 26th August by returning to office, a decision which sports Minister, Dr Tammy Danagogo obeyed reported to the Glass House this afternoon.

Maigari resumed to a resistance from the Executive Committee led by Acting President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chief Mike Okeke Umeh, saying his impeachment was an outcome of a process and if he must resume back, the process has to be followed. Whereas, Maigari wanted to resume and take over affairs straight.

Maigari was accompanied to the secretariat by suspended Board members Christopher Green and Ahmed Fresh. Also in his entourage was Secretary General Musa Amadu who earlier placed a call to the office asking the receiving party at the other end, “if those idiots” are in the office. Also on Maigari’s team is the factional chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) when the fight was a two-way between the interim NFA and NFF, Jarett

Tenebe. Also on the team are Ahmed Kawu and Seyi Akinwumni.

Meanwhile, Mike Umeh has been cleared by the Appeals Committee to contest the Presidency in the 26th August election into the Executive Committee of the Federation.

With Umeh’s clearance, he will now face the proprietor of Giwa Football Club, Ambassador Chris Giwa, in the election which will become a two-horse race pending the clearance of Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, if the Court of Arbitration in Sports (CAS) gives its judgment this week as announced in Loussane.

It will be recalled that the acting President was last week disqualified by the Electoral Committee headed by Mr. Amoni Biambo, citing irregularities in his nomination form thus, making Giwa the sole candidate cleared by their screening exercise.

Also disqualified were a former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Association, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, for being under ban while Chief Patrick Olusegun Odegbami, was disqualified for non-endorsement of his nomination form among other irregularities.

According to Biambo, Umeh had picked nomination form to contest as First Vice President but returned the form as a presidential candidate without attaching receipt for the purchase of the form.

Consequently, Umeh laid his protest to the Appeals Committee which is the only agency that can overrule the Electoral Committee.

The Appeals Committee headed by Dotun Coker, cleared Umeh for the election at the weekend, following outrage that greeted the clearance of a sole candidate, Giwa, for the election and the subsequent decision of the Executive Committee to over step its powers to ask the Electoral Committee to step aside.

However, a visit to the Glass House, headquarters of the NFF was met with grim looking armed operatives of the State Security Services (SSS).

Rather, the Executive Committee of the NFF was busy holding a meeting to sort out so many issues that may have arisen between Friday and when we went to press.
