An Non Governmental Organization (NGO) , Centre for Constitutional Governance (CCG) has called for a concerted efforts to rescue Nigeria’ democracy from collapse.
The Executive DIrector of the centre, Dr Adewale Balogun made the call on Thursday in Lokoja at the opening of a one-day consultative meeting held in collaboration with the Centre for Leadership, environment and socio- economic Development.
He said that Nigerians were becoming increasingly apathetic to democracy, saying that this portends a great danger for the future of democracy
Balogun blamed politicians for the development, saying that politician had continued to disregard the people and their welfare.
the Executive Directos also stated that the cost of governance had become so prohibitive and unreasonable at the expense of the people’s welfare.
“government business appears to be the most profitable in Nigeria,”He said and stated that there was urgent need to rescue democracy from politicians and government officials.
he urged communities to start engaging their elected representatives to meet their yearnings for quality education, good health care , good roads and mass transit Programme.
Also speaking at the program, the Kogi State facilitator of CCG, Mr Emmanuel Shelika who said the main purpose of the NGO is to enable a good governance in the State and to ensure that people are alive process the good Governance.
He said to achieve a good Governance people need to know their rights and make sure they vote for a good candidate that will bring back a good returns which is their priority in the Society.
Bilikisu Agbagi the Saraumi of Lokoja said many people are pained by the happening in the society, because salaries are not paid Local Government salaries are not paid full salaries which is not a good one.
She said with the NGO, she hope the will be able to confront the Government so that they will know what citizens are going through in the State.
