As part of efforts to effectively communicate its activities to the public, the Nigerian Army on Thursday established a media centre in Maiduguri for its counter-insurgency operation in the northeast region of the country.

The theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Yusha’u Mahmud Abubakar, a Major General, said the establishment of the media centre was on directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Burutai.

Abubakar, who was represented by the Commander in charge of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army, Lamidi Adeosun, a Major General, said the centre will be opened to the media to access information on its activities.

Abubakar said the military has recorded huge success in its activities in the troubled region with the cooperation of the media, adding that it would like to sustain relationship.

He said the Chief of Army Staff believes the role of media is very important for its successful operation and would not want to deprive them of all needed information.

He advised media practitioners to always approach the centre for needed clarifications.
