The Amajimbos set up a last four date with Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys after Sunday’s 3-1 triumph over Cameroon in the one of the last Group B matches of the championship played at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché, Niamey and handled by Nigeria’s referee,Ferdinand Udoh Aniete.

Nigeria had earlier booked a place in the semi final after a similar win over the Junior Chipolopolo of Zambia on Saturday and South Africa’s emphatic victory over the Junior Cubs guaranteed the side’s place at the Chile 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup and a slot among the remaining four countries at the championship.

South Africa were the purists’ favourites to be eliminated after securing only two points from the opening two games but they shocked Cameroonians 3-1 in Niamey while Mali grabbed the second slot with a close 1-0 win over defending champions Cote d’ Ivoire.

Mali will slug it out with Guinea in the battle of two West African nations in the other semi final on Thursday at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché.

The Eaglets are striving to follow in the footsteps of the 2007 U17 set that triumphed in Togo during the cadet championship before adding the world title few months later in Korea Republic after a penalty kick victory over Spain in the final.
