Both teams had crashed in the semifinal to Burkina Faso and Senegal respectively and were hoping for the bronze medal to end the competition on a high.

Claude Le Roy’s men began the game brightly but were unable to curtail the defensive network of the Dream Team that conceded three goals against the Stallions, coupled with some fine goalkeeping from Emmanuel Daniel.

Samson Siasia’s men too had their chances too but the strikers could not find the back of the net as they also missed several goal scoring opportunities.

Silvere Mboussy had the best chance of the game in the 79th minute but his effort went wide. With the game standing at 0-0 at full time, both teams were separated by kicks from the penalty spot.

Kingsley Sokari, Etor Daniel, Erhun Obanor, Christian Pygbara and Sodiq Atanda all converted their kicks while goalkeeper Emmanuel saved Sagesse Babélé’s effort to ensure his team secured the bronze medal.

Samson Siasia will hope to commence preparations for the 2016 Olympics football qualifier with immediate effect.
