Nigerian star undergoes successful knee surgery, out for nine months

Halimatu Ayinde has undergone surgery on her knee and the Eskilstuna United midfielder indicated that the operation was a success.

The Nigeria international ruptured her knee in action for Swedish outfit Eskilstuna FC against Hackens recently.

Following her horrible injury in the 60th minute, she was stretchered off in pain during the game and and was replaced by compatriot Ngozi Okobi but their side lost 3-0 to the Swedish champions.

Following advice from the club’s medical team, Ayinde was scheduled to have her surgery and she has now started her recovery sessions.

Having gone under the knife for her knee on Thursday, the 26-year-old will be out of action for the rest of the season as she is expected to be sidelined for at least nine months.

With the development, the former Delta Queens midfielder will also miss Nigeria’s qualification campaign for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, including crucial clash with Ghana in September.

Ayinde, who was named Eskilstuna’s Player of the Year 2020, has featured twice in the Damallsvenskan topflight games this term, after recently helping her side to a Swedish Women’s Cup runners up in 2021.

Eskilstuna United are ninth on the Swedish topflight log with seven points and they host Linkoping in their next encounter on Sunday.
