Nigerian teenage, Omotayo lifts team in Swiss Table Tennis League

Teenage sensation, Olajide Omotayo at the weekend began his professional career in the Swiss table tennis league after aiding STT Lugano to a 6-1 win in their first league match against STT Veyrier.

The 2013 Asoju Oba Cup champion, who recently moved to Europe to ply his trade in the Swiss elite league was regarded as the youngest in the lucrative league but his performance was instrumental to his team’s triumph.

Playing alongside his teammates – Simone Spinnicha of Italy and Csaba Molnar of Hungary, Omotayo described his experience as exciting.

Narrating what transpired in the encounter, Omotayo said: “We played against STT Veyrier and we won 6-1. I won one and lose the other but my teammates won all their matches to give us the needed victory. I feel so happy as this is my first year of playing for a professional club and I think it is going to be a big lesson, which I am ready to learn from because there are lot of good players in Switzerland,” he said.

Continuing he said: “It was not easy at all because we had 16 top teams playing in the league while our next match will be against STT Kloten and I am looking forward to a good outing. For me playing in the league is going to help me a lot because I will be playing some tough matches and I hope to learn from all these matches.”
