NNL: Afolabi, Lasisi Emerges Kogi United Captain, Assistant

Players of Kogi United Football Club, have unanimously selected defender Afolabi Abiodun and midfielder Saheed Lasisi as the captain and assistant respectively of the Lokoja-based Nigeria National League team.nnl

Coach Fatai Osho confirmed the appointment of the duo as leaders of the team, after a morning training session at the Kogi Confluence Stadium, Lokoja Monday in the presence of the club’s management, also said the choice of the team is acceptable to him.

Explaining the rationale behind the players’ choice, the former Remo Stars tactician said the selection of team leaders was based on ability of the duo to carry along their teammates, attract respect coupled with their hard work.

He expressed high confidence in the captain and his assistant capacity to mediate well between the technical crew and players to achieve the club’s target of getting to the premier league.

Ameh Henry, a one-time captain of Kogi United and now club’s team manager, noted that the role of captain as a leader of the players comes with “lot of responsibility” and believes the “duly” picked leaders will lead the team to greater height as they have been selected based on “quality”.

While expressing delight at their appointments, the new captain, Abiodun Afolabi and his assistant, Saheed Lasisi both described their new roles as an opportunity to serve humanity, stressed that with a lot expected of them they would not disappoint but continue to work hard with their teammates to take the club to the zenith.

Reacting to the choice of captains, goalkeeper Innocent Ndem, hailed their careful selection and described it as “fair and good choice for the players”.

The duo of Abiodun Afolabi and Saheed Lasisi as captain and assistant of Kogi United respectively were both decorated with their bands amidst fun fair.
