Northern group sends message to G7-members over Tajudeen’s nomination
As the race to become the next Speaker of the National Assembly heightens, Nigerian youths have urged aspirants under the aegis G7 to back Abbas Tajudeen for the nation’s interest.
The group, Northern Youth Forum for Good Governance (NYDGG) made this appeal at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja.
The call is coming amid internal controversy surrounding Tajudeen’s endorsement by the All Progressives Party.
In his address, the group’s president, Bilal Abdullahi, said House of Representatives members should bury all differences and embrace the party’s decision and that of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Given that Hon Tajudeen Abass has the endorsement of the President-Elect, we wish to use this medium to appeal to the G7 and other members-elect to see the reason behind the choice of Hon Tajudeen Abass.
“The APC must stay united at the risk of allowing some dramatic outcomes during the elections of principal officers in the House of Representatives”, he stated.
The G7 group are members of the House of Representatives aspiring for the position of speaker.
They include, the current Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Wase; the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Aliyu Betara; and the Chairman, the House Committee on Navy, Yusuf Gagdi.
Sada Soli (APC-Katsina), Sani Jaji (APC-Zamfara), Miriam Onuhoa (APC-Imo) and Rep Ado Doguwa, who pulled out recently.
