Northern Voices Urge EFCC Chair, Bawa, to Stay Focused Amidst $2m Bribe Allegations

Amidst the corruption allegations made by Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State against Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Concerned Northern Forum (CNF) has come forward to urge Bawa to stay focused and not be swayed by distractions.

The CNF expressed its unwavering commitment to Bawa’s fight against corruption in Nigeria and dismissed the allegations as baseless. In a statement signed by CNF Chairman Muhammad Sanni, he referred to the accusations as “absurd” and claimed they were orchestrated by corrupt individuals with the intent to tarnish the reputation of the EFCC chairman and divert attention from the crucial task of combating corruption and related financial crimes.

Sanni further emphasized that the allegations lacked evidence and were circulated by individuals who feared the scrutiny of the EFCC for embezzlement and misuse of public funds. He pointed out that Governor Matawalle failed to provide supporting evidence for his claims, suggesting that the accusations were fabricated to avoid accountability.

The CNF Chairman also alleged that Governor Matawalle’s motives were to divert public attention from the ongoing investigation into corruption, phantom contracts, and the alleged diversion of over N70 billion. He labeled this tactic as a known strategy employed by corrupt individuals to evade legal consequences.

As the EFCC chairman faces these allegations, the CNF stands firmly in support of his efforts to combat corruption and urges him to remain focused on his crucial role in upholding justice and fighting financial crimes in the country.
