The Restoration Boys plunged themselves into more trouble in the Nigeria Premier League after suffering their second home defeat of the season to Heartland.
The club started the season playing their home games at the Sapele Township Stadium but they changed their base to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City after serving their three-game ban.
Heartland raced into the league through diminutive winger Jolly Osas before Bright Ejike’s brace extended the lead to 3-0 before Odili Iyasele reduced the deficit for the hosts.
On resumption of the second half, Konate Abdulrahmane ensured scores stood 4-1 in favour of the visitors. Peter Ebimobowei got Bayelsa United’s second goal and his seventh goal of the season.
The match officials was called off in the 72nd minute after the pitch became water logged due to a heavy rainfall. The game was completed on Sunday afternoon with the last 18 minutes jostled by both sides and Adegoke Aniyikaye got the 3rd goal for the home side in the 89th minute.
Heartland moved to 23 points from 17 encounters while Bayelsa United are rooted on 20 points from 15 games.
