NSCDC trains 320 officers in weapon handling in Plateau

civil defenceThe Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Plateau Command, said it had trained 320 officers in extensive weapons handling between January and November.

The Commandant, Vincent Bature, said on Tuesday in Jos that the officers underwent extensive training in weapons handling, arms drills, combat craft, range classification and exercises.

He said that out of the 320 officers, 20 were specially trained as Special Forces at the Nigeria Army Counter Terrorism Training School, Kachia in Kaduna State and the School of Armour, Kontagora in Niger.

He added that the training would lead to the formation of a formidable armed squad for the command.

Bature said the armed squad, in unison with other security agencies in the state, would work to boost security surveillance and minimise crime in the state.

He stressed that the officers were cautioned against unlawful use of arms, noting that `anyone involved in the case of `accidental discharge’ will be severely dealt with.’’

The commandant urged the media and the public to always assist the command by providing useful information that would enable it to perform its duties proactively.
