NUT: Kogi Government should pay Teachers Salary – Chairman, Suleiman Abdullahi

The Nigeria Unions of Teachers Chairman Kogi State chapter, Mr Suleiman Abdullahi has said the primary school teachers are home because Government did not pay them.

The Chairman said the Government did not pay the 27.5% of teachers salary which is known as peculiar allowance that covered hazards which the Government did not pay to the teachers.

He said the allowance was negotiated year’s back in Kogi State that teachers engaged between the year 2009 September and by 2011 when salary relativity was to be paid to teachers the allowance was dropped.

Chairman said the union has been agitating for replacement since then because is the right of the teachers to be paid allowance.

Abdullahi said the they came to agreement with the Government that the 60% minimum wage should be paid starting from Sept. 2013 and a gradual process to attain a 100% but till now they have done nothing about it.

He said some teachers are owed March and April salary which is not a good one for the teachers because some of them can not afford to pay for school fees and even feed themselves.

“The only thing I will say to the Government is that they should pay the teachers salaries,” Chairman said.

Chairman said the teachers are not on strike they did not have enough money for transportation and money to feed and cloth.

He advice the teachers to have more patient that he believes that Government will meet up with their requirements one day.
