Nwankwo Kanu backs CBN to Sponsor NPFL, want YSFON revived

Nigeria ex-international, Nwankwo Kanu believes the Central Bank of Nigeria can boost its partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation by becoming key sponsor of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Kanu, two times African Footballer of the Year, who is the 2013 Ambassador of Central Bank of Nigeria for the All Financial Institutions Football Competition admitted to newsmen at the Kogi Confluence stadium on Saturday.

After commending the Central Bank of Nigeria’s unrelenting role in developing Nigeria football through the annual staging of CBN cup, admitted that the Nigeria’s apex bank is capable of financing a football club in the Nigerian league.

Kanu insisted several Nigerian football stars have been discovered from CBN Cup since inception in 1978, stressing that development of football in Nigeria could become a reality when quality competitions are organized.

Meanwhile, the former UEFA Champions League winner, Nwankwo Kanu has advocated for the resurgence of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, (YSFON).

Kanu noted that the desired competition required to ensure youthful talents are discovered will be better achieved with the revitalization of YSFON.

The arguably African most successful player stressed that when overwhelming support of age-grade tournaments most talents will be discovered and Nigeria football will improve for the better.

Kanu sensational got irritated over commentators’ talks linking him with Arsenal, insisting that he is much concerned about developing grassroot football.
