NWFL Premiership MD4 Wrap: Bayelsa Queens end Delta Queens 19-game unbeaten run

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Matchday Four experienced a stunning end to defending champions Delta Queens’ 18 match unbeaten strick.

The midweek also confirmed the first losses of the season for debutants, Remo Stars Ladies and Dannaz Ladies with Nasarawa Amazons, Confluence Queens and Bayelsa Queens keeping their unbeaten record intact in four matches.

Heartland Queens 0-0 Confluence Queens

Heartland Queens and Confluence Queens played a drab draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.

Both sides their fair share of chances at goal but couldn’t convert to end the game at a stalemate.

Adamawa Queens 1-0 Dannaz Ladies

Adamawa Queens came back to life after being on the death row in three matches, he Yola Girls got their first win of the season through a remarkable goal scored by Mary Moses in the 11th minute of the game which was enough to end their three matches unbeaten run at the Pantami stadium, Gombe.

Robo Queens 2-1 Remo Stars Ladies

Lagos giants, Robo Queens handed Remo Stars Ladies their first defeat of the season with an emphatic 2-1 victory over their southwest neighbors.

Shukurat Oladipo provided two valuable assists to Opeyemi Ajakaye and Folashade Ijamilusi to give the Lagos Landladies 2-0 advantage in the game before a consolation goal was pulled back in the 81st minute by Adaobi Okah.

Nasarawa Amazons 0-0 Abia Angels

Nasarawa Amazons were held to a barren draw by visiting Abia Angels at the Lafia township stadium.

The Lafia Landladies couldn’t bank on home support to get past the Abia Angels as they throw away two points in the process but still maintain their hold at the top of the NWFL Premiership group A.

Rivers Angels 3-0 Sunshine Queens

Rivers Angels were spurred to victory courtesy of the brace from Olamide Adugbe and Blessing Okpe against Sunshine Queens.

Following a pulsating first half, Adugbe showed her finishing skills to give the Jewel of Rivers a deserved lead in the 53 minute and seven minutes later, tricky winger, Okpe doubled the club’s advantage.

A late minute goal from Adugbe compounded the woes of Sunshine Queens as Rivers Angels returned to winning ways following their loss last time out against Delta Queens in Asaba.

Bayelsa Queens 1-0 Delta Queens

It was a battle of the fittest in Yenagoa as Bayelsa Queens ended defending champions, Delta Queens 19 games unbeaten run with a slim victory.

Chinyere Igboamalu 78 minutes strike separated both sides in an epic game that showed the resilience, power, flair and techniques from both sides.

Royal Queens 1-1 Naija Ratels

Royal Queens came from a goal down to force Naija Ratels to a 1-1 stalemate in Warri.

The One Day At A Time Ladies went ahead through a gifted own goal from Eyitemi Omagbemi in the 50 minute and the Warri lads came back on level terms five minutes later to seal the game to a 1-1 draw at fulltime.

Edo Queens 3-1 Ekiti Queens

Edo Queens ran riot against their visitors, Ekiti Queens 3-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

Glory Osaghae was the star of the show for the Benin Arsenal in their emohatic win in front of their home fans.

Osaghae put Edo Queens ahead in the 44 minute and doubled the lead four minutes after the start of the second half.

Ekiti Queens were handed a lifeline through Regina Omede 79 minute strike but Osaghae proved unstoppable as she restored her side two goal lead in the 82 minutes which culminated to her bagging her hat trick of the day.

The NWFL Premiership will resume on Wednesday, December 13 in another round of hostilities among the 16 clubs.
