NWFL Premiership Super 6 Day 4 Wrap: Bayelsa on brink of title as Narasawa bow to Rivers

The Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership Super 6 continued to gather more storms as Bayelsa Queens extended their perfect run the tournament entered matchday 4 on Friday, while Rivers Angels and Edo Queens won their second and first games respectively.

Following three successive wins, the Restoration ladies were seeking to boost their title chances and Monday Gift emerged the herione again as her 47th-minute header was all they required to go past a resilient Delta Queens on Friday morning at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The victory marks Bayelsa fourth in a row and took their points tally to 12, opening a five point lead over closest rivals, holders and second placed side Rivers Angels with seven points.

Later in the afternoon encounter, Esther Oyenezide continued her fine form for Edo Queens as she superbly struck from a free-kick spot to secure the win over Naija Ratels at the UNIBEN Sports Complex.

The victory was Edo Queens’ first of the Super 6 tournament and takes them up to fourth on the log with four points from four matches.

In the final match of the day, defending champions, Rivers Angels maintained their resurgence as they came back from a goal down to beat Nasarawa Amazons 2-1 in a very dramatic fashion.

Mercy Idoko broke the deadlock with her fine strike from the edge of the box in the 39th minute to hand the Lafia ladies a crucial first half lead at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

However, inside the final 10 minutes, the Jewel of Rivers turned the game on its head when Maryann Ezeanagu blasted home the stunning equaliser from a free kick spot before Deborah Kehinde’s late effort catapulted the Porthacourt based side into a back-to-back win in the competition.

The result moves Rivers Angels to second on the six-team table with seven points from four games, while Nasarawa dropped to third with six points from three games plus a game in hand.
